The role in detail
As part of Grant Thornton’s IT department, the IT & Systems Operation Specialist will be instrumental in ensuring the stability, availability, and performance of the firm’s applications and technology environments. The role involves monitoring and maintaining business-critical systems, managing on-premise and cloud infrastructures, and proactively resolving technical issues to safeguard efficiency and reliability. The successful candidate will also contribute to automation initiatives, optimize databases, and support infrastructure monitoring while actively engaging in company-wide projects. This position is a key enabler of Grant Thornton’s commitment to operational excellence and to making a difference every day for both internal teams and clients.
The key responsibilities of this role will include:
Evaluating expanding or enhanced computer operations; makes recommendations for improvement and upgrading hardware and software to manage workload and system requirements.
Providing technical support—identifying, investigating, and resolving users’ problems with computer software and hardware
Applying knowledge of computer software, hardware, and procedures to solve problems.
Collaborating with other employees to research and resolve problems.
Arranging service by software or hardware vendors to repair or replace defective products.
Developing and communicating department projects and goals.
Maintaining knowledge of technology innovations and trends.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
To be successful at this role you need the following (hard and soft skills):
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
3–4 years of hands-on experience in IT Operations or a similar technical role
Fluency in Greek and English, both written and spoken
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Advanced troubleshooting skills on Microsoft client environments (Windows, Microsoft Office)
Solid understanding of basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS)
Working knowledge of cloud architectures and services, with emphasis on Microsoft Azure
Good understanding of database administration principles (SQL / NoSQL)
Hands-on experience with Linux and Windows system administration
Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Datadog)
Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles, supporting the implementation of security measures and best practices
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Strong work ethic, team spirit, and a high level of accountability
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact confidently with all levels of management
ITIL® Foundation certification or higher will be considered a strong plus
